Housekeeping Manager


The Housekeeping Manager assures the provision of housekeeping and laundry services as defined in the lifecare contract to the residences, Community Building, Passmore Fitness Center and Health care Center. The Housekeeping Manager assures a trained workforce for the housekeeping and laundry departments in order to provide these services and assures the maintenance of a clean and well-maintained physical environment. The Housekeeping Manager builds strong relationships to ensure delivery of person-centered services to residents.

  • Establish standards, policies, work procedures and programs for the housekeeping and laundry staff in accordance with Pennswood Village’s established procedures.
  • Develop housekeeping and laundry staff through hiring, orientation, education, inservice programs and the evaluation process.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations for Woolman House, Barclay House and Home Care.Implement a program that meets these standards.
  • Evaluate the performance of the housekeeping staff, maintain such records as are necessary to ensure timely, honest and objective assessments of employee performance.
  • Assist Facilities Director in preparing the budget; responsible to implement budget.
  • Responsible for the replacement and maintenance of equipment used in the department.
  • Understand and follow all personnel and administrative policies.
  • Maintain safety standards and practice risk management.
  • Manage personnel/payroll functions.
  • Update skills and knowledge through programs and seminars specifically when it comes to green cleaning programs.
  • Maintain a quality assurance program through participation on the Quality Assurance Committee.
  • Assist the Facilities Director in developing long-range and short-range goals to meet the needs of the department and residents.
  • Visit all new residents to orient them to housekeeping policies and assess any special needs that need to be addressed.
  • Implement an emergency/disaster plan for the Housekeeping Department along with the Director of Compliance and Risk.
  • Coordinate set-ups with community activities in Penn Hall and other reserved rooms.
  • Assist the Facilities Director with ongoing evaluation of the physical condition of the buildings.Makes recommendations for repairs or changes as needed.
Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.Experience can be substituted for education.


  • Minimum of 3 years experience in direct supervision.
  • Five years experience in housekeeping/janitorial services industry.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Windows based computer system, including Word and Excel, and departmental software, as required.Appropriate computer experience for position.
  • Continuing education and seminars in related field.
  • Knowledge of industrial housekeeping equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral communication skills; Proven problem solving experience; Ability to interact professionally with a variety of individuals.
